1915, Joe Hill was killed in Salt Lake city, leaving a poetic and inspiring will
Woody Guthrie wrote the Ballard of Tom Joad, about a Joe Hill type figure [Tom Joad was a characted from the book "the grapes of wrath" who Guthrie had a great affinity with]
Alfred Hayes wrote the first I dreamed I saw lyric in 1925 about Joe Hill
Phil Ochs wrote his version of I dreamed I saw Joe Hill in the 60's, I think. It was to the tune of Guthrie's Tom Joad
in 67 Dylan did a split album with John Wesley Harding, and the song I dreamed I saw St. Augustine was on it. Dylan was a friend of Phil Ochs and a fan of Woody Guthrie
in 1990 Billy Bragg re-wrote the Alfred Hayes song about Joe Hill to be about Phill Ochs.
That, to my knowledge is the outline of the I Dreamed I Saw... songs
Interesting, it's been a year exactly since my last journal. I've been mainly using DA as a place to post my good photos.
